Diel patterns

The average amount of clicks recorded per hour during four time periods of day, over a period of seven weeks is shown in the graph on the right. The average amount of clicks recorded per hour was found to be significantly different between all four groups (represented by an asterisk). The dolphins echolocation activity is highest between midnight and early morning, after which it declines throughout the day, reaching the lowest point in the evening after 18:00 (this coincides with the trainers leaving after 17:00).

The graph shown below represents the average number of clicks per hour in a week in August / September and a week in October. The time of sunset and sunrise differs around 2 hours for both of these weeks, however, the diel pattern does not seem influenced by this.
