Research Interests

I am interested to build up a highly professional working skill and become a good researcher in the field of Ecology.  I am strongly motivated to build my career in research area. I hope a PhD program will help me to build my educational background more strong by giving required knowledge, expertise and confidence to achieve my goals.

I have completed my Masters thesis in Marine Ecology from the department of System Ecology of Stockholm University, Sweden. My MSc thesis was for 60 credit points and titled as ‘‘Consequences of increased temperature for epilithic cyanobacteria and macroalgae in the Baltic Sea’’. In my thesis project I worked with algal species Cladophotra glomerata and cyanobacteria colony Rivularia atra to see if there any microbial diversity or physiological modifications due to temperature change. I also observed the variability of algal species composition in different temperature sites near Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant in Baltic Sea.

I know how to measure photosynthetic performance (measured as PAM fluorescence) of photosynthetic organisms and how to compare the photosynthetic activity of different organisms in Photosynthesis-Irradiation Curve (PI-curve) where photosynthetic activity was expressed as the electron transport rate (ETR).

I also know how to measure the pigment dynamics of photosynthetic organisms using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) techniques. I identified six pigments in Rivularia and compared the concentration of those pigments in relation to the temperature variability.

During my thesis period I had been provided access to well-equipped DNA extraction and HPLC laboratory for full time. I was working in the laboratory to set up laboratory experiments with different treatments in different temperature chamber.

Actually I aimed to identify the 16SrRNA for both Cladophotra and Rivularia in my thesis project. I learnt working procedures with typical methods of FastDNA®Spin Kit for DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, autoclaving and other techniques related to microbiology.

As a part of my MSc degree I worked in a project to determine the Sulphur contents as well as Sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) of a wetlands near a waste recycling centre in Linköping (a town in Sweden) for one week. In this project I learnt the working procedure of anaerobic condition.

Rather I have familiarity to work with Statistica, CANOCO, Matlab, Minitab, Ginkgo, Software R, Microsoft Access and Microsoft excels as well for statistical analyzing scientific data.

My working capability with international colleagues is broad enough and quite nice. I worked with professors and students of at least 15 different countries during my education. Besides, in several of the projects during my studies, I was team leader responsible for building and leading our project team. As the team leader, I was responsible for not only my assigned area of the project, but also distributing project assignments and responsibilities as well as governing interpersonal relationships.

Right now I am expecting to employ myself in a position which will help me to build my background education strong enough and also to increase my work experiences in international research group.
