Six adult spider monkeys (3 females and 3 males) participated in this study. They were maintained at the field station Pipiapan, hosted by the Universidad Veracruzana near Catemaco, Province Veracruz, Mexico.

I used a two-bottle preference test of short duration ( 2min). The animals were presented with two drinking cylinders (100 ml) with a metal spout. One bottle contained a defined concentration of ethanol (0.05 - 3.0 %), and the other bottle contained plain water.
