There is no variation the grain protein and mineral nutrient concentration among the different groups of cultivars. There was a increase in chlorophyll content and seed size in the modern cultivars but decrease in the height of the plant. There is no variation in the diversity of   HvNAM-1 gene in 19th century barley cultivars. This results suggests that the nutrient variation in barley might be due to the expression of other NAC genes and this could be contributing a role in regulating the senescence, seed size and height. Therefore, it is worth investigating the other genes and also requires new effective molecular genetic markers and further more experiments like sequencing in the future studies.
