Modeling of real systems extends from a description of the complex physical processes to a prediction of financial markets behavior. Theory, Modeling and Visualization profile is focused mostly on theoretical physics and provides a general knowledge on using the theory in simulations. Moreover, the leading positions of Linköping University in materials science, high-performance computing and scientific visualization with the strong research environments like the Interdisciplinary Materials Science Laboratory for Advanced Functional Materials, the Swedish e-Science Research Centre and a new modern Visualization Center in Norrköping make it possible to give necessary background courses for the study of materials modeling, scientific computing and visualization on advanced level within the framework of this profile.

Profile education starts with the basic courses in analytical mechanics and quantum mechanics. These are followed by a number of specialized courses such as electromagnetic field, material physics, computational physics, computer graphics and visualization. The theoretical physics on advanced level is covered by the courses in relativity theory, relativistic quantum mechanics and physics of elementary particle. The up-to-date applications of physics are expounded in the courses on quantum computers, nanophysics, chaos and nonlinear physics. The profile is completed by the courses of parallel programming and scientific visualization from the other departments.

Labour market for students who follow the theory and modeling profile is rather abundant. Modeling and simulations are on a stable demand from the various industrial and academic institutions. Our students work at Saab Avionics, Saab Dynamics, FOI, National Supercomputer Center (NSC), Sweden's Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) in Norrköping. Another sphere of action is material science and technology. One can use extensively the background of our profile even in the fields of financial market, nuclear energy industry, oil production etc. The theoretical physics as applied to modeling and visualization is an education which allows one to develop interest in physics and to have the great possibilities to continue a career.
