Summary of Volodymyr Khranovskyy's activities


My research activity is development of new functional material for optoelectronics, photonics, transparent electronics and gas- and bio-sensing technologies. Particularly, I am focused on fabrication and characterization of the films and nanostructures of zinc oxide (ZnO). ZnO is a semiconductor material with a direct and wide band gap (~3.3 eV at RT), it is highly transparent in the visible range of spectra (~96%) and its resistivity can range from 10^-4 to 10^6 Ohm/cm. Due to this and other unique properties, ZnO is one of the most prospective materials for future applications.  Via incorporation of the foreign impurities into crystal lattice of the material its functional properties can be respectively modified: the band gap can be engineered from 2.5 to 4.5 eV via Cd or Mg doping; the resistivity can be tuned via Ga, Al, IN doping; the material can receive advanced magnetics properties via doping by Mn, CO, Fe etc. 

The most important prospective of the material application is that the entire LED device can be designed based on ZnO p-n junction, once the efficient p-type doping will be reached. Such LED would be optically transparent, highly efficient and sustainably clean, which provides powerful motivation for p-type ZnO attaining. My recent researches are devoted to doping ZnO by Ag in order to get the p-type conductivity in the material. Finally, I am working on the adapting ZnO for application as the transducers for biosensors, studying its interaction with the biological substances.
