Gender differences

My study demonstrated that there were no differences in sensitivity between male and female subjects, whereas there was a difference in discrimination ability between the genders.

The male subjects, as a group, were able to discriminate more odorant pairs and at a lower factor than the females were able to do.

If this difference regarding discrimination ability really is due to gender or just a product of the large interindividual differences remains an open question as several earlier studies support the notion that there is no difference between the genders regarding discrimination ability.
