Study species

Oaks (Quercus robur) can get very old (up to 1000 years) and that is one of the possible reasons why they are such an important substrate for many epiphytic lichens. Over 300 species has been found on oak in England and about 260 in Sweden. Here are the six species used in this study: click on the photos or in the link list to get further information about these species.

Calicium adspersum

Chaenotheca phaeocephala

Chrysothrix candelaris

Cliostomum corrugatum

Evernia prunastri
