Phenology, landscape utilisation and monitoring of bumblebees

Method

The study was conducted in Sturefors, approximately 17 km south of Linköping. Six different landscape elements were studied: unfertilised pasture, ley, uncropped field verge, wood verge, gravel road verge and asphalt road verge. For each landscape element, three replicates were made. Data was collected between 10th of June and 9th of September and between 9 am and 18 pm. Bumblebees were recorded using line transects. At the end of each transect walk, temperature; wind speed; percentage of sky covered by clouds and percentage of transect in direct sunshine (part of transect not shaded from e.g. trees or clouds) were recorded, as well as the frequency of flowering plants.
