The division of Theory and Modeling is concerned with descriptions of nature that elucidate the interplay between the basic laws of nature and our sensory perceptions. The beauty of these descriptions, or models, lies in their simplicity while maintaining their generality and ability to interrelate known facts.

Another criterion often imposed on a model is that it should not only agree with passed observations but also be able to predict future events. In doing so the model may be adequate to push science forward, and, infrequently, particularly reputed models may be alleviated to the status of theory.
