X-Cut is a collaborative project including LiU, the German Research Center HZG Geesthacht and SECO Tools AB. The common interests are hard and wear resistance coatings which in the project are studied using in-situ, time-resolved synchrotron-based high-energy x-ray scattering techniques. The aim within the project is to gain fundamental understanding, on an atomistic level, of the dynamics of the coating growth and coating behavior during cutting tool operation. Within the project, the understanding on existing nitride coating materials is improved as well as new material systems are explored.
