Welcome to the Nanoscale Engineering Division
Our RESEARCH GOAL is to understand on a fundamental level the complex interplay between materials chemistry, atomic arrangement and physical attributes and utilize this relationship as a tool to design and create new thin film materials in an atom-by-atom fashion.
Our RESEARCH STRATEGY entails the combined use of novel vapour-based thin film synthesis routes along with in situ probes and growth simulations to unravel the mechanisms that determine nanoscale atomic arrangement in multicomponent materials synthesized far from thermodynamic equilibrium. Advanced ex situ characterization techniques are employed to study thinfilm microstructure and physical properties.
Our VISION is to generate knowledge that will trigger a paradigm shift with respect to the way contemporary materials are created.
