Synthesis of functionalized oligothiophene derivatives with specific optical and electronic properties.
By combining the features of polymers and the electro-optical properties of conjugated molecules, conjugated polymers suitable for a wide range of applications, such as solar cells, displays and biosensors are created. Our research is mainly focused on creating well-defined oligothiophene derivatives through rational chemical design (See figure below, and highlight)
As a first instance we are synthesizing oligothiophenes that can be utilized as tools for studying biological and pathological process. The aim of these projects are mainly to provide molecular tools that can be used for real time in vivo imaging of biological events from the nanoscopic level (biomolecules and cells) to the macroscopic level (organs and body).
