Pernilla Foyer

PhD Student

My PhD project concerns different aspects of dog mentality. In particular I study how early experiences affect behaviour. I will try to learn more about differences in maternal care, and I will also study what factors in the neonatal environment that can possibly alter the amount of maternal care. Further I will look into how these presumed differences in maternal care and early experiences affect the behaviour and mentality of the adult offspring. The aim of the project is to get more dogs that are suitable for the Swedish Armed Forces.

I work as a PhD student for the Swedish National Defence College in Stockholm, but I also belong to the Avian Behavioural Genomics and Physiology Group at Linköping University. In my project I will use the dogs and test results from the German shepherd dogs at the breeding station of the Swedish Armed Forces Dog Instruction Centre (SAFDIC) in Sollefteå.
